About Us | Flag Island Resort

Since 1936

For generations, Flag Island Resort has been a beacon for travelers to the Northwest Angle on Lake of the Woods. You will feel the warmth and history of this place from the moment you step on shore. Our goal is to be your home in this majestic wilderness while making your stay as comfortable, fun, and relaxing as possible. Every member of our team, from the dock boys to ownership, is here to serve and make you feel welcome.

We have 25 modern cabins, a full-service lodge, restaurant & bar, transport service, gift shop and tackle shop, plus fishing and hunting guiding services available year round. Our resort is an ideal base for your Lake of the Woods vacation on American or Canadian water, with the border less than 1000 feet away. Here you can discover true solitude in every season. With its 14,000 islands and 65,000 miles of shoreline to explore, Lake of the Woods provides almost endless opportunity for adventure.

Our resort & restaurant are open all year and revolve around two main seasons: summer (open water) and winter (ice). We typically have open water by early May. With several fishing guides on staff and ties to the top independent guides in the area, we provide world-class fishing for walleye, muskie, and several other species. Fishing is our most popular summer attraction but there is much, much more to do here!

Lake ice usually arrives by early December which kicks off our winter season, and some folks are surprised to learn that winter is the busy season. Ice fishing is extremely popular of course but we also host snowmobilers, cross country skiers, and outdoor photographers just to name a few. Aside from the resort and lodge, we maintain 30+ heated fish house rentals, a ski-plane runway, and six tracked Bombardiers providing on-ice transportation. Winter at Flag Island is anything but boring!

Fall and spring are excellent here too – fewer people and, ironically, the best fishing and hunting of the year. Just watching the seasons change up here is a treat. Whatever season you choose to visit, the memories made at Flag Island Resort will last a lifetime.

“My wife and I couldn’t have been more pleased with our time at Flag Island Resort. The accommodations were great, but the people were what set them apart. The staff made you feel right at home and were there for anything you might need. It will definitely be an annual stop for us. Thanks again to everyone at Flag Island!”

“* Best resort experience I’ve ever had in one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever seen *
We went to fish for crappies and walleyes and we had an absolute blast. However, the reason I can say I’ll be back is due to the staff and ownership that care for you and the resort. Fine details like packaging fish for transport, excellent food, knowledgeable and personable guides; all which made the experience more memorable.
Thank you for an excellent experience. I can’t wait to come back.”

“The staff and the resort are absolutely wonderful. We stayed in Longbow and we were so impressed with our stay. The dock staff catered to all our needs, and the waitstaff made every accommodation with a smile on their face. I Recommend this resort to anyone that wants 5-star service and fell like you’re at home.”

“Our extended family has made an annual trip to Flag Island for over 10 years. Cabin upgrades and change in management has made our experience even better. Cabins are clean and well maintained. Spacious for big groups. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful. The restaurant has decent service and is perfect for a nice hot meal. The tackle shop within is a really nice addition. Fishing itself is fantastic and it’s hard to be disappointed even on a slow year. I would highly recommend for your next fishing adventure!”
